Hubballi: Six days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hubballi, the buntings and banners are still there.
When Prime Minister Modi visited Hubballi on January 12, many leaders and BJP functionaries welcomed him by putting up the banners on Airport Road.
The 8-km stretch was decorated. Lingaraj Dharwadshettar, the president of the Shreya Park Residents’ Welfare Association, said these have now become a problem. “We were happy to welcome our PM. However, BJP leaders and the HDMC should take care to remove these things. They have left it to maintain influence for the coming assembly elections,” he said.
PM Veeresha Sharma of Gandhi Nagar said a long saffron cloth is now a threat to vehicles.
“The cloth keeps flying in the wind. The cloth may cause tragedy (on the road). Modi himself is a critic of VIP culture and does not like causing hurdles for commoners. However, his followers are not obeying his words,” he said.
Dharwadshettar said that poles with bigger hoardings are installed at some places.
Gopal Byakod, DCP, crime and traffic, said he had alerted HDMC 2-3 times over the phone. “We are told that they have started the work of removing the banners,” he said.
