New MoU will generate 15k jobs in Vid, says CM
Chandrapur: Maharashtra government has entered into agreements for investments collectively worth Rs1.37 lakh crore with various multinational companies (MNCs) during the first two days of the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting under way at Davos in Switzerland. These include three MoUs that will bring Rs22,120 crore investments to Vidarbha.
According to a government press release, one of the MoUs was signed with New Era Cleantech Solutions, a company from America. This company is going to invest Rs20,000 crore in building a coal gasification project at Bhadravati in Chandrapur. CM Eknath Shinde termed it as an important project for development of Vidarbha as it will create 15,000 job opportunities.
The company will build a coal gasification project having 5 million metric tonne per annum (MMTPA) capacity. The plant will produce synthesis gas through coal gasification technology. It will be the first private sector synthesis gas project in the country.
An agreement was also inked with UK’s Varad Ferro Alloys to establish a Rs1,520 crore steel project at Chamorshi in Gadchiroli district. It would bring in 2,000 jobs in the Naxalite-infested tribal district.
Another MoU was signed with Israel’s Rajuri Steels and Alloys to establish a Rs600 crore steel plant at Mul in Chandrapur district. This project will generate 1,000 jobs for locals.
Shinde government, facing flak for losing big industrial projects to Gujarat, had announced these proposed investments during the recent winter session of state legislature. CM Shinde himself is leading the Maharashtra delegation to WEF to garner maximum investment for the state.
Industries minister Uday Samant, additional chief secretary to chief minister Bhushan Gagrani, industries department secretary Harshdeep Kamble, India executive director of New Era Cleantech Balasaheb Darade, Gopi Latterte, Nihit Agarwal, Ajay Agarwal etc were present at the time of signing of MoUs.
