Ranchi: In a move to become tech savvy and inculcate leadership qualities among its personnel, the Jharkhand police on Monday signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with four top educational insitutions located in the state.
The institutions are the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Ranchi, the XLRI/ Xavier’s School of Management-Jamshedpur, the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT)-Mesra and the National Institute of Technology (NIT)- Jamshedpur.
Police said the MoUs would be effective for a period of five years and that it would be reviewed bi-annually.
The scope of the MoUs is work-based collaborations, software and hardware development, joint research in cyber crime affected belts and exchange visits.
The management institutions would help the police in optimising manpower utilisation, redefining human resources policy, leadership training and incorporation of best practices in policing.
The technical institutions would aid the police in digitisation of police records and services, understand artificial intelligence and other aspects to curb cyber crimes.
State police spokesperson IG AV Homkar said, “This development will better our organisational skills and provide improved security to people of the state. We now need deep understanding of technology for investigating crimes.”
The MoUs also provide scope for the district police chiefs to come up with ideas, which may be developed for tackling various crimes.
States like Kerala, Maharashtra and Punjab have signed MoUs with institutions to better their performance.
Notably, 45 police officers and constables of the state completed training in OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) at the Investigation Training School at Hotwar in Ranchi. The skill would help them to tackle cybercrime.
