NSCN-IM stated, “ The Nagas shall unwaveringly stand on the declared Naga national decision come what may. An honourable and acceptable political solution between India and the Nagas has been mutually agreed to be based on the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 wherein the sovereignty of the Nagas is acknowledged in conjunction with the Naga National flag and the Constitution. The Nagas do not acknowledge any agreements signed under the Indian constitution”.

Konyak Union (KU) has decided to refrain from participating in the assembly polls. The union resolved to permanently expel those individual filing nominations to participate in election from the Konyak soil.

Nokzei P Konyak Press and Media secretary stated, “The Konyak Union in its Emergency meeting held at the Konyak Union conference hall on 18 January 2023 resolved and reiterated to remain steadfast and firm to the 26th August 2022, Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO), ENPO resolution to abstain from participating in the upcoming 2023 NLA Election until the Government of India grant the demand of ENPO for a separate statehood befittingly.

The statement added, “The house further resolved to permanently expel those individual filing nominations to participate in the NLA election, 2023 from the Konyak soil and the village of the person filing nomination shall be held solely responsible. The KU has also fully endorsed and empowered the Konyak Nyupu Sheko Khong (KNSK), Konyak Students' Union (KSU) and Village Councils to fully implement and act upon the resolution.”

Nagaland has 60 assembly seats and Eastern Nagaland accounts for 20 seats. Polls will take place in Nagaland February 27.

ENPO the apex tribal organisation of eastern Nagaland, which is demanding a separate state met the MHA officials, led by A K Mishra recently.

ENPO has threatened to boycott the upcoming assembly polls if their demand is not met. Earlier seven tribes of the area did not participate in the Hornbill Festival.

Seven tribes of Eastern Nagaland, Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Tikhir, Sangtam and Yimkhiung are spread across six districts.

NSCN-IM

The NSCN-IM stated that the Nagas do not acknowledge any agreements signed under the Indian constitution.

In a statement NSCN-IM started, “We stand by the Naga National decision of May 31, 2022, “to uphold and protect Naga unique history and Naga national principle at any cost”, and therefore, we uphold the sanctity of the Framework Agreement that was signed on the foundation of respect for and recognition of the sovereignty of the two entities – Nagalim and India. We reaffirm “The Letter and Spirit of the Framework Agreement” of the Collective Leadership, dated Oking, December 16, 2022, whereby sovereignty of the Naga nation is upheld and the Naga national flag and Constitution are declared as integral to Naga sovereignty. We also reaffirm the resolution of the Collective Leadership and the NSCN members of July 23, 2019 to, “(shall) uphold the 3rd August, 2015 Framework Agreement and strive to conclude the on-going Indo-Naga Negotiation honourably.”
