Hands tied, Varanasi student of IIM-R found hanging in hostel

RANCHI: A 22-year-old student of the Indian Institute of Management-Ranchi was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his hostel room, with his hands allegedly tied.
Shivam Kumar Pandey, hailing from Varanasi, was in semester VI, pursuing business analytics. A murder case was registered on Tuesday as the family suspected foul play.

As per preliminary information, Shivam's friends found his room locked from inside on Monday evening. They knocked at the door, but received no response. They informed the guard, who peeped inside from the ventilator and saw him hanging.
Shivam's father Akhileshwar Prasad Pandey, who reached Ranchi on Tuesday, said he was informed around 11.30pm on Monday that his son had died by suicide. He, however, raised suspicions on the death and said photos showed his son's hands were tied and legs were on the floor. He also questioned why the body was taken down in the absence of police and video recording.
