BELAGAVI: Dhairasheel Mane, an MP from Maharashtra, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, complaining after he was refused entry into Belagavi district.
Mane was scheduled to attend Hutatma Divas (Martyrs Day), an event organised by Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti on Tuesday.
But Belagavi DC, Nitesh Patil, late on Monday night, issued an order banning Mane from entering the district. It is the second time in as many months that the Belagavi administration has banned Mane from entering the district, citing law-andorder issues. In his or der, Patil said the decision was taken to protect public property and people’s lives.
In his letter to the PM, Mane said the ban is unfair since, aschairman of the experts co mmittee formed by Maharashtra to look into the ongoing legal proceedings regarding the Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute, he must meet with Marathi-speaking people in the border area.
“We [Mah arashtra government] want to resolve the issue amicably, but the Basavaraj Bommai government is not cooperating,” he states in his letter. “By banning my entry, the Karnataka g overnment has disrespected the formula given by home minister Amit Shah during the joint meeting with chief ministers of both states a couple of months ago. I urge you to t ake appropriate action against the Karnataka government. ”
He also pointed out that as an elected MP, he has the right to travel to any part of the country.
