Assam man held for withdrawing money with cloned Aadhaar
Ranchi: The criminal investigation department (CID) has nabbed a cybercriminal who withdrew Rs 2.5 lakhs from a bank account after cloning the victim’s biometric thumb impression.
The criminal is identified as Ganesh Mandal, a resident of Kamrup district in Assam, and seized two mobile phones, PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, credit cards, a laptop and other documents from him.
A sum of Rs 1.30 lakhs was also recovered from the accused.
Addressing the media persons on Monday, SP (CID) S Kartik said, “Mandal used to clone thumb impressions and upload in different websites using butter paper. He used fake documents to open accounts to secure the Aadhar Enabled Payment System (AEPS). Subsequently, he misused the AEPS to withdraw the money through the Point of Sales machines using the cloned signature.”
