Dharwad: The National Youth Festival ended on Monday after five days of song, dances, art and cultural events by youths from across the country.
The festival became a people's festival with the participation of thousands of youths, among them eminent singers, writers, poets, painters, actors, dancers, sportspersons and social activists.
The sprawling Karnatak College ground with the main building in the backdrop stood testimony to another historic event.
Illuminated beautifully, the entire campus was bustling with cultural activity. The laser show was the icing on the cake.
The festival provided a platform to several talented young artistes and college students.
A food court, exhibition of arms and ammunitions used by defence forces, water
sports and adventure games enthralled people.
The NYF was celebrated as the Green Youth Festival, drawing inspiration from the Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan.
All the activities had been mandated to follow the six Rs of waste management - refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle and rethink. This was an effort to ensure a green future for the next generation.
Awards for winnersAt the valedictory function held at University of Agricultural Sciences on Monday the dignitaries presented the national youth awards and also prizes to the winners.
Minister Anurag Thakur said the NYF had provided a platform to youths from across the country to meet and interact with each other to know the diverse culture of the country. He said the future of the country is in the hands of youths and they should be ready to take the country forward.
Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said the state government was committed to implement all programmes launched by the Centre for the empowerment of youths and Karnataka had its own programmes in this direction.
Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot said India was emerging as a strong nation and the entire world was looking at India for guidance. Youths should focus on getting educated and skilled and take the country forward to make it a ‘Vishwa Guru’.
Union minister Pralhad Joshi thanked the central government for allotting the event to Hubballi-Dharwad and state government for extending support.
Delegate Masoom from Ladakh and Bhim Subha of Sikkim shared their experiences at the NYF.
