Ludhiana: Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday granted bail to Lok Insaf Party (LIP) chief and former MLA Simarjit Singh Bains in an attempt to murder case. But he will still stay in jail in the rape case which was registered by Ludhiana police on July 16, 2021. He had surrendered before a Ludhiana court in the case in July last year.
On February 8 last year, Shimlapuri police had lodged an FIR against Bains, his son Ajaypreet, brother Paramjit Singh Bains, councillors Harwinderpal Singh Kaler and Swarandeep Singh Chahal, 30 identified and 100 unidentified accomplices, under Section 307 (attempt to murder), and other IPC sections and Arms Act in a “poll violence” against his friend-turned-opponent Kawaljit Singh Karwal.
