PRAYAGRAJ: Here comes good news for students wanting to pursue research from Allahabad University in the academic session 2022-23. AU administration has decided that 26 newly appointed teachers, in eight different departments, would be permitted to enrol research students under them from this year itself.
At least two students will be allotted to each of these 26 teachers. Permission to conduct research has been given only to professors and associate professors of the department concerned. In this regard, AU’s registrar prof NK Shukla has issued a notification too. It has been mentioned that only those teachers (professor and associate professor) who have been appointed at AU before June 30, 2022 will be able to conduct research. With this, 52 seats of PhD are expected to increase in eight departments.
Presently, teacher recruitment has been completed in 17 departments of AU wherein 240 new teaching faculty members have been appointed. However, in many departments, the appointments were made after June 30, 2022. Thus, the teachers who have joined AU after June 30, will not be able to enrol PhD students under them in the current academic session.
Those who can enrol research students under them include one associate professor in the department of Film and Theatre, three associate professors and one professor in the department of Zoology, two associate and two professors in the department of Sanskrit, one professor at Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Research Chair, one associate professor at Centre of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences (CBCS), one associate professor in the department of Statistics, five associate professor of the department of Psychology and seven associate and two professors in the department of English.
“The process of enrolling research scholars under the newly appointed teachers has been approved following the notification of the registrar. In this, according to the rules, the teachers can enrol two research scholars who have been selected after following the set process laid down under Combined Research Entrance Test (CRET). This will encourage research in a new direction and teachers will also get opportunities to expand their academic experience”, said public relation officer (PRO), AU, prof Jaya Kapoor. If these teachers already have PhD students enrolled under them, they can also get the research scholar transferred to AU as per the rules, she added.
