Mysuru: The six-day annual Suttur Jatra Mahotsav at Suttur near Mysuru will be held from January 18.
The jatra celebrations were low key since the Covid pandemic, but this year, the mahotsav celebration committee has decided to organise in grand manner with spiritual, educational,
sports and cultural activities, mahotsav committee secretary S P Manjunath, who is also JSS Mahavidyapeetha Secretary, said on Monday at Suttur.
Except for the cattle fair, the committee has decided to conduct a variety of events, including indigenous games, boating, rangoli, kite flying, wrestling competitions. The committee, which has been organising this fair for the last 53 years, has cancelled the cattle fair, one of the major attractions of this cultural festival because of the lumpy skin disease in cattle.
Rathotsav will be held on January 20, Mahadeshwara kondotsav and Lakshadeepotsav on January 21, ‘teppotsava’ on January 22 and Veerabhadreshwara kondotsav on 21. A galaxy of political party leaders from both state and union governments, including chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, former CMs Siddaramaiah, B S Yediyurappa, H D Kumaraswamy, D V Sadananda Gowda, Jagadeesh Shettar, Union ministers Prahlad Joshi, Shobha Karandalaje, will take part in the celebrations. The mass marriage will be held on January 19.
