Vadodara: Another Barodian, a 35-year-old resident of Chhani area of the city, lost his life to the killer kite string. Rinku Yadav died on Uttarayan day after his throat was slit while riding his two-wheeler on Dasrath-Chhani bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Onlookers said that Yadav was wearing a helmet when the kite string got entangled in it. When he tried to remove the string, it got pulled further by the force of a four-wheeler that was passing nearby resulting in severe injuries.
Even as onlookers called 108 emergency ambulance service which shifted the victim to the state-run SSG Hospital, Yadav could not survive. His family members and relatives mourned his death at the hospital where post-mortem of his body was carried out.
Yadav is the third casualty that Vadodara witnessed due to the kite strings in less than a month.
Earlier, Mahesh Thakur, a resident of Ranoli area of the city, had died after a kite string slit his throat on January 3. Before him, a 30-year-old man Girish Batham had also died while he was passing from Navapura area on his two-wheeler and the manja slashed his throat leaving him with grievous injuries.
Both Batham and Thakur were injured when they were riding their two-wheelers on Sama canal road when the kite strings left them severely injured. Even as the administration had been cracking down on those selling sharp Chinese kite strings, many shops sold it illegally. The state-run SSG Hospital continued to witness patients with multiple kite string injuries both on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, SSG hospital had witnessed around 16 cases of throat injuries and five cases of patients falling from heights. On Sunday as well, the flow of patients continued at the government hospital.
