Four in SCB hospital ICU,‘condition stable’ in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Three children, aged between 8 and 11, and a woman are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, after sustaining injuries during the stampede at Singhanath temple in Badamba locality on Saturday that left one dead.
Adyasha Sahu (8) from Khandapada area in Nayagarh district, Sumitra Sahu (10) from Narsinghpur area, Keshab Lenka (11) from Banki area and Swarnalata Panda (52) from Banki locality in Cuttack district are undergoing treatment at SCB, while five others injured have been discharged from Badamba government hospital.
Two children are admitted to the trauma ICU under the supervision of the orthopaedic department. They have fractures in their limbs. The two others are in central ICU.
"At present, the condition of the injured is stable. But we cannot say anything before 72 hours. Doctors from different departments are coordinating the treatment process," said Bhubanananda Maharana, emergency officer at SCB.
Makar Mela, a famous festival at Singhanath Temple, a Shiva shrine, was supposed to have continued for three days. But following Saturday's incident, Cuttack district administration imposed prohibitory orders. Around seven platoons of police were deployed at the shrine on Sunday to prevent people from entering the temple.
Cuttack district collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani said they will take necessary steps in future to avoid such crowd surge.
