PATNA: A man running a coaching institute in Sitamarhi district has been jailed for blackmailing a girl student and seeking sexual favours after she quit the institute and shifted to the state capital. The accused was a prominent environment activist famous in the areas as ‘Tree Man’ for his campaign for plantation drive.
The police arrested Sujeet Kushwaha, a native of Darbhanga district, on Saturday after the girl complained she had been receiving threats from the chemistry teacher that he would make her photographs viral on social media if she didn’t agree to his demands. Police said the girl, who is the daughter of a policeman, had been attending her coaching along with her brother. The teacher had taken some photographs of the girl for some “official” purposes but later he edited the pictures and began blackmailing the girl.
“The accused had been sending obscene messages on her mobile phone and blackmailing her. We have arrested the teacher and sent him to jail,” Dumra police station house officer Janmejay Rai told TOI over phone on Sunday. The police also seized his mobile phone containing many obscene photographs of the girl.
The accused was famous for plantation and saving trees.
The Sitamarhi Municipal Corporation had appointed him as its brand ambassador. He also claimed to be the founder of “Ped Lagao, Selfie Khichwao” campaign, in addition to working for ‘Teach Girls, Save Girls’ campaign.
