JAIPUR: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday gave his consent for the construction of 1,500 gaushalas in 1,500 gram panchayats under the Public Participation Scheme of Gaushala in Gram Panchayats announced in budget 2022-23.
He has also approved one-time financial assistance of Rs 1,377 crore for the construction works.
The cow shelters will be set up in the selected gram panchayats where a competent executive agency (gram panchayat/voluntary organization) will operate them.
"The entire programme is divided into two parts-200 gram panchayats will be constructed in the year 2022-23 and 1,300 in 2023-24. Government will bear 90% of the total cost and the executive agency will bear 10% of the amount," said the official statement, while adding that the move will serve the stray cows by providing them safe and secure shelters.
"The farmers will be benefitted too as the stray cows damage crops. When their lactating period is over, cows are often released by the owners in cities contributing to traffic woes. The shelters will house such cows," said an official.
Of total Rs 1,377 crore, Rs 183.60 crore will be spent in the year 2022-23 on 200 cow shelters while remaining Rs 1,193.40 crore will be kept for year 2023-24 to build 1,300 cow shelters.
