Foreign varsity graduate turns seller of stolen tractors to fund addiction
Ludhiana: Following the footsteps of his brother, a law graduate from a foreign university took to selling stolen tractors in Punjab and other states. Police have arrested Rajinderpal Singh alias Bunty Gujrati of Narangwal Kalan village and seized five tractors.
The police have also nominated Rajinderpal’s brother Sukhjinderpal Romi of Godhra of Gujarat and his friend in the case, who are yet to be arrested.
Police said the accused had stolen six tractors, out of which five have been recovered. One of the tractors was sold to an Uttar Pradesh-based farmer.
ASI Gurmeet Singh, investigating officer from Sadar police station, said police arrested Rajinderpal from Kheri Chowk village at Pakhowal Road following a tip-off on Saturday. During interrogation, the police found that Rajinderpal’s brother Sukhjinderpal and the latter's friend worked in a Gujarat-based agency which financed tractors.
The accused used to identify people who had not paid instalments on time and used to confiscate the vehicle. However, rather than informing the agency about these vehicles, the accused would bring it to Punjab to sell it further. Rajinderpal has confessed that they had stolen a total six tractors so far, out of which one tractor was sold to an Uttar Pradesh farmer.
A case under Sections 379 (theft), and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC has been registered against the accused. Rainderpal graduated from a foreign university. Being an acute drinker, his wife had left him. The accused said he took to the crime to buy liquor for himself.
