Truck mows down mother-son duo, hits two others in Unnao

Kanpur: A woman and her son died while three others were injured after a truck hit them and crashed into a unipole near Sheikhpur canal on Unnao-Shuklaganj road in Unnao on Saturday night.
The injured persons, including the truck driver, have been admitted to the district hospital.
The police identified the deceased persons as Aasma (45) and her son Arif (27), residents of Shantinagar. Arif had a vegetable shop near Sheikhpur canal.
Arif and his mother were returning home on foot after closing the shop when a speeding truck hit them and two others before crashing into a unipole.
Inspector, Kotwali police station, Rajesh Pathak, reached the spot with the force and shifted the injured persons to district hospital.
The mother-son duo were pronounced dead at the hospital while the treatment of the injured truck driver and two others is underway.
The police later cleared the road by removing the truck and the damaged unipole with the help of a crane.
Additional superintendent of police, Unnao, Shashi Shekhar Singh said, “We have booked the truck driver for causing deaths by negligence. Bodies have been shifted for postmortem examination and the truck has been impounded.”
