Ramgarh: The district transport department and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Saturday began a unique drive as part of the ongoing road safety week wherein violators were greeted with flowers and asked to follow traffic rules.
The national road safety week began on January 11 and will end on 17.
Ramgarh district transport officer (DTO) Saurabh Prasad said on Saturday they began vehicle checking drive near Patel Chowk in Ramgarh town at NH-33, during which people driving without helmets or seat belts in four wheelers were offered roses.
“This is part of the activities we have undertaken on road safety awareness. First, we are offering them flowers, asking them reason for nothing adhering to the rules, and slapping challans. More stringent action will follow during subsequent violations by anyone,” he said, adding that the efforts would curb road accidents.
