10-hours plogging at Kanpur ghats on Makar Sankranti
Community feast and kite flying was organised at several places in city and state on the occassion of Makar Sankranti
KANPUR: Kanpur ploggers, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on Sunday, performed 10-hour plogging and conducted an awareness drive -Project Pukar at Sarsaiya Ghat of the city on Sunday.
Around 70 ploggers assembled at the ghat and did plogging from 7am to 3pm. Convener of the Kanpur ploggers Sanjivini Sharma apprised that 70 volunteers had registered themselves for Pukar project and gave their services in 90 minutes. Thus plogging and awareness drive continued non-stop for 10 hours.
The district magistrate Kanpur Nagar had convened a meeting of different departments and priests of the ghats recently wherein it was decided that they would help the ploggers and ask the devotees tonot to use plastic bags.
During the plogging, the team members witnessed that devotees were carrying flowers and other articles in plastic bags. The team seized the polythene bags from vendors selling flowers and others and newspapers were given to them with a request to wrap the flowers and other items in paper instead of polythene, said Sanjivini Sharma.
The Kanpur Municipal corporation team too joined the ploggers and sent the collected polythene to the garbage disposal house.
