Wardha: The Wardha police have solved a murder case following an investigation spanning 35 days after a burnt body of an unidentified woman was found in the forest at some distance from the Satyagrahi Ghat on Nagpur-Amravati highway on December 10 last year.
Wardha superintendent of police (SP) Noorul Hasan said it was a challenging task to identify the victim on the basis of only her ornaments, burnt saree and shoes as the body was completely charred.
Informing this at a press conference on Sunday, Hasan said that police have arrested the husband and brother-in-law of the victim. The duo has been remanded to police custody till January 19.
One Bhimrao Shingare had spotted the body and informed police. A case of murder was registered at Talegaon (Shyamjipant) police station in Wardha district.
The victim was identified as Jyotsna Bhosale who was allegedly murdered by her husband Manish and her brother-in-law Pravin Pawar, residents of Mangrul Chavhala, Nandgaon (Khandeshwar) tehsil in Amravati.
Cops had received information about missing report of a woman. Hasan said cops searched more than 3,000 missing women reports from Wardha, Nagpur city, Nagpur rural, Amravati city, Amravati rural, Yavatmal, Washim, Akola, Buldhana, as well as Chhindwara, Pandharkawda, Multai, Athaner and Baitul of Madhya Pradesh to identify the victim.
Cops inquired with many jewellery, cloth and shoe sellers and tailors. CCTV footage of 25-30 places close to the spot were checked. Inquiry was also done with cattle grazers, petrol pump staff on highways, hotels, puncture repair shops.
Hasan said cops also tried extract information from around 1,200-1,500 women involved in cutting sugarcane. Asha workers were also roped in to inquire with 2,000 women while cyber cell examined all the technical aspects.
The breakthrough came when cops came across a missing report filed at Frezerpura police station in Amravati on December 5 by the victim’s family.
According to police, Manish suspected Jyotsana was involved in an illicit relationship. “After murdering her, he tried to dispose of the body by burning it in Satyagrahi Ghat on Nagpur-Amravati highway. Only the shoes, some pieces of saree and ornaments could be collected from the spot for investigation,” said police.
In another case, two persons were arrested for murder nine months after body of an unidentified person was found near Hetikundi in Karanja, said the SP.
