Dharwad: The main competitive event of the 26th National Youth Festival was Indian folk dance. Artistes from all states presented their cultural and traditional folk dances and grabbed the attention of the crowd.
Women artistes from
Tamil Nadu performed a dance using stilts. They performed five folk dances. The Kerala team performed Thirayattam, a ritualistic ethnic art form of southern Kerala. The Karnataka team performed Kangilu Kunitha, a traditional folk dance from the coastal region. The Assam team performed Bihu.
Shramya, a folk dancer from Udupi, said that folk dance makes her happy and art needs to be retained. Venkatesh Dasar and Manisha Sarashetti said that it was a privilege to see the NYF in Dharwad. “We saw dances from Kashmir to Kanyakumari here. People gathered in the hall and shouted while watching the folk dances,” they said.
The winners of the folk dance contest will be awarded on Monday.
