MC to install CCTV cameras in Ludh east, proposal to be put forth in F&CC meeting

Ludhiana: Civic officials plan to install closed circuit cameras in various areas falling under Ludhiana East constituency. A proposal will be put forth in the finance and contracts committee meeting to get the cameras installed under the Ludhiana Smart City Mission. Work on installation of the cameras in these areas is already going on. Officials said that they would get the work done by the contractor selected under LSCL, which would save time and money.
In November 2021, the MC received a grant of Rs 75 lakh from the state government for the cameras. The civic body also floated tenders for selection of a contractor. Thereafter, code of conduct was imposed and the government changed but the civic body still has the funds.
Officials said they would request F&CC members to transfer the money to LSCL and they would get the work done from the contractor who has been selected and is working at 34% less than the estimated cost. Meanwhile, the MC identified certain locations to install CCTVs in East constituency, including Central Jail, Vijay Nagar, Balaji Pull, Hundal Chowk, Rajinder Nagar, Main Tibba Road, Gopal Nagar chowk, Iqbal Nagar pulli, Geeta Nagar near Nova Garments, Puneet Nagar, Gurmail Park Tibba Road, Jagirpur T point, Rahon Road and Kakowal Road.
Additional commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said, “Already, the process of installation of cameras is going on under the smart city mission so these areas will also be covered under smart city mission. We require permission from the F&CC members to go ahead with the work.” In 2021, it was proposed to install 163 cameras at 28 locations in Ludhiana east constituency to keep a tab on vehicular movement and movement of criminals. All the cameras will be connected with the integrated command and control centre (ICCC).
