THANE: Ex-MP and NCP leader Anand Paranjape on Saturday accused Thane police commissioner Jaijit Singh and senior police officers of "working as a private army of the ruling party and harassing the opposition."
Apart from Singh, he named additional commissioner Punjabrao Ugale, and DCPs Amarsingh Jadhav and Ganesh Gawade, claiming they were working only to please the CM (Eknath Shinde). "Despite serious offences registered against a woman BJP functionary in Mumbra under Pocso and Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act, she has not been arrested," Paranjape said.
He said the anticipatory bail plea of a Shinde faction ex-corporator had been rejected, but Thane police had chosen to ignore the matter. But, he alleged, cops were targeting NCP workers.
