GURUGRAM: Acknowledging the contribution of migrants to the city’s speedy rise as an economic force, Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh said on Saturday that Gurugram contributed around Rs 48,000 crore to the central exchequer as income tax, which is 65% of Haryana’s share.
“Haryana, a state without river, which was considered as younger brother of Punjab, has marched ahead to carve a place for itself with the development on economic front, and this has become possible due to the hard work of the people of Haryana and those who have migrated from other states and made Haryana and Gurugram their home,” he said.
Particularly, the local MP said, Gurgaon has made immense contributions to the development of Haryana and the country. “Gurgaon generates maximum revenue for the state government.”
Recalling the early days when Haryana was carved out from Punjab, the Union minister said, “People used to say Haryana has agriculture but no culture. Today those people should take note of the development made by the state and its people.”
Elaborating how Gurgaon has emerged as an important city on the national and international map, Singh said, “India is hosting the G-20 meet. Several G-20 meetings will be organised. For four such meetings, Gurgaon has been chosen as a host city. This is a matter of pride for us.”
“We have developed the city in a way that it has been chosen for international-level meetings. The development of Gurgaon has emerged as a model which is being implemented by the Haryana government in other parts of the state and other states are also keen to follow the same,” he added.
Rao Inderjit was speaking at the inauguration of a two-day sub-regional conference of Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in the city. “CAs are an important link in the development of the economy. The economy is growing at a rapid pace and it is also increasing the work and responsibility of the CAs,” he said.
