2 held for beating youngster for speaking to girl
Mangaluru: The Vittal police from Dakshina Kannada district arrested two persons on the charges of assaulting a youth on Saturday, for speaking to a girl student while travelling in a bus at Kelinja in Veerakamba.
The arrested accused are Chandrashekar and Rohith.
The police had booked a case against six persons, following a complaint lodged by the victim, who is also a student.
Police sources said that in a complaint, Mahammed Shakir,19, has accused Chandrashekar, Prajwal, Rohith and three unidentified persons of assaulting him.
The incident occurred when he was returning home after college on Thursday. The accused reportedly questioned him for allegedly asking a girl student who was sitting next to him, whether she wanted chocolate. The girl reportedly refused the chocolate.
A few youths who observed this, passed on the information to other youths, following which about six youths assaulted him with their hands, when the bus reached Kelinja. An investigation is on, after a case was registered on Friday, police said.
Labourer dies after
mud caves in
A labourer died and five others sustained injuries, after mud caved in when they were working near a railway bridge on Thursday. The deceased is Obaleshappa. According to police, the incident took place when Obaleshappa, Ballari Govindappa, Thimappa, Eranna, Sanjeeva and his wife Tripti alias Rekha were clearing mud under a railway bridge. When a train moved on the bridge, mud from a hill caved in, resulting in the death of Obaleshappa, while the rest of them sustained injuries. The injured and the deceased were rushed to a hospital. A case has been registered at the Surathkal police station.
