NEW DELHI: The autopsy report of Shraddha Walkar has confirmed that her body was chopped with a saw-like object, sources said on Saturday. This is significant because it will give scientific proof to the cops against her live-in partner, Aaftab Amin Poonawala.
"The postmortem was conducted at AIIMS on Tuesday and cops were informed about the details in the report on Wednesday. As many as 23 bones were sent for the postmortem and most of them were those of Shraddha. Some of them were also of animals," sources said.
Sources further added that two bones had deep cut marks, suggesting that her body was chopped with a saw-like sharp object. One of the bones was a thigh bone. In a few bones, there were also cut marks, which suggested that knives might have been used to chop the body into pieces.
Sources added that during questioning, Aaftab told investigators that he had chopped Shraddha's body with a saw. Police had also taken him to a hardware shop, where he had purchased blades and a saw frame. He told the cops at the shop that he had purchased three to four blades along with a saw frame from there. After chopping the body, Aaftab disposed of the weapons of offence in a forested area near his office in Gurgaon.
Last week, cops claimed that the hair and bones that were sent for DNA mitochondrial profiling by police were those of Shraddha.
Cops during searches in forested areas of Delhi-NCR had recovered bones and hair. Police said that bones and hair samples from which DNA could not be extracted were sent to Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics in Hyderabad for DNA mitochondrial profiling. Later, cops received the report, which stated that one piece of bone and a bunch of hair had matched with Shraddha's father and brother.
Sources said that the cops are preparing a chargesheet in the case, which they may file before the court at the end of January. They are also taking help of legal consultants in the preparation of the chargesheet.
