Criminal throws firecrackers at police

Thiruvananthapuram: In a series of events on Friday, a notorious criminal threw firecrackers at the police, and his mother threw an axe at a sub-inspector when they tried to arrest him from his house at Kaniyapuram.
However, the Mangalapuram police overpowered Shameer (22) and also arrested his mother, Sheeja (44) of Paychira near Andoorkonam.
Even at the police station, Shameer remained aggressive and assaulted the cops. He even tried to commit suicide inside the lock-up by slicing his neck with a blade.
He was rushed to the Medical College hospital and is currently undergoing treatment there.
The police had reached Shameer’s house to arrest him on a murder attempt case registered at Mangalapuram police station.
According to the police, Shameer is an accused in as many as 14 criminal cases registered at various police stations.
Another person named Abin, who was with him during the arrest, managed to evade the police and escape.
Shameer and his brother Shafeeq (26) are accused of attempting to murder a man named Nikhil Robert over a financial deal, and also of snatching cash from him.
The Mangalapuram police had reached their house after receiving a tip-off about their presence there. Shafeeq was not at home when the police arrived.
The Mangalapuram police have registered cases against Shameer for attacking the cops; another case was registered against Sheeja and Shameer under sections of the IPC 353 for disrupting the duty of a public servant and 307 for attempting to murder, and a case under the Explosive Act.
The police have also registered a case under section 309 of the IPC for attempting suicide against Shameer.
