NOIDA: A 16-year-old boy stabbed in the abdomen with a knife near a hospital in Noida's Sarfabad village bled to death by the time he was administered treatment on Thursday evening.
The accused, identified as Ankit, was arrested on Friday. He is from the same village as Deepak Kumar, the victim. Police said Deepak and Ankit had a fight during a game of cricket a few days ago.
"Around 7.30pm on Thursday, we received information about a boy profusely bleeding from a stab injury near Khan hospital in Sarfabad. By the time a police team reached there, his family members had rushed him to a hospital," said Praveen Kumar, assistant commissioner of police (ACP-3).
Deepak's family members took him to the District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that Deepak's brother had seen a man attacking him with a knife. He rushed home and informed the family members. But he could not identify the accused," Kumar said.
Deepak's father Mohan Lal, who drives an e-rickshaw, lodged a police complaint, following which a case was lodged against the attacker under Section 302 of the IPC.
"A couple of teams were formed to trace the attacker. CCTV footage were also scanned," the ACP said
Ankit was nabbed from Badaun on Wednesday. He told interrogators that Deepak and his friends had thrashed him a couple of days ago and he wanted to avenge that.
"On Thursday, he found Deepak alone and stabbed him near his house. He then fled to his hometown in Badaun," said Ashutosh Dwivedi, additional deputy commissioner of police.
