Belagavi mayoral poll on Feb 6

Belagavi: MG Hiremath, regional commissioner and election officer of the mayoral elections of Belagavi City Corporation (BCC), on Friday, announced long-pending elections for the mayoral and deputy mayoral posts of BCC on February 6.
According to a public notification issued by Hiremath, elections will be held for both posts with an existing reservation category, which are ‘general woman’ for mayoral post and OBC-B category woman.
The nominations will be accepted from 10 am to 3 pm at the BCC meeting hall. Scrutiny of nominations, announcement of valid nominations, withdrawing of nominations, announcement if the candidate is elected unopposed, election by raising hand if necessary, and counting and announcement of elected mayor and deputy mayor would starts from 3 pm.
Election for 58 wards of the BCC was held on September 3, 2021, wherein BJP achieved mandate by winning 35 seats. Congress had won 10, AIMIM got one seat and 12 other seats by independents. However, mayoral elections did not happen due to reservation-related glitches.
