Pune: A 55-year-old central government employee from Vishrantwadi lost Rs2 lakh to a cybercrook who posed as a bank employee last year.
An officer from the Vishrantwadi police said on November 15, the complainant had visited an ATM kiosk in Junnar to withdraw Rs 9,500. He could not get cash but received a text message that it had been debited from his account in a public sector bank.
The complainant then went online and looked up his bank’s customer care number and contacted it. The person at the other end told the complainant to download a remote access app on his cellphone and used it to access his bank account and made five withdrawals amounting to Rs 2 lakh.
