HYDERABAD: A gym trainer and his younger brother were booked under Pocso Act for alleged sexual abuse of a 17-year-old intermediate student. A criminal case was also registered against the siblings on Friday by Bowenpally police for allegedly extorting gold and other valuables from her.
Police said the case was registered following a complaint by the girl’s family. Following the development, some locals along with her family members staged a protest in front of the gym in Bowenpally, demanding that immediate legal action be initiated against the 25-year-old trainer and his 23-year-old sibling. The protesters also wanted the authorities to shut the gym to prevent similar incidents from happening in future as well.

After receiving a complaint on Thursday night, police sent the girl to Bharosa centre for a medical examination and counselling. “The accused took 20 tolas of gold, 60 tolas of silver and 4.5 lakh cash from her by blackmailing her. The harassed girl brought the valuables from her house and gave it to him,” Bowenpally inspector K Ravi Kumar said.
In their complaint to the police, the victim’s family alleged that the main accused was taking photographs of the girl while she was training at the gym and later started blackmailing her to bring valuables from home.
“To stop the accused from uploading her photos on social media, the girl took gold and cash without the knowledge of her family members. She secretly passed on the stolen items to the brothers,” police said. The extortion reportedly started two months ago and police are in the process of recovering extorted valuables.
In the latest case, cops said that the gym trainer’s brother was also booked for aiding him committing the offence. Cellphones of the accused were seized and they are being analysed for the alleged photos of the girl.
“Based on her statement at Bharosa centre and the medical examination report, we will know if she was raped by the accused. If she was raped, we will alter the sections accordingly,” police said.
Police reportedly took the accused into custody and they are being interrogated. Police will also talk to other customers to check if there are more such victims.
