HUBBALLI: The Union government has sanctioned the setting up of an off-campus National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Hubballi. The communication was sent to the chief secretary of the government of Karnataka in this regard, dated January 12.
The foundation-laying ceremony is expected to be held on January 27, by union home minister Amit Shah during his visit to Hubballi-Dharwad.
Pralhad Joshi, union minister for parliamentary affairs tweeted the order copy and said: "I thank PM. Shri. @narendramodi ji, HM Shri. @AmitShah ji for giving one more prestigious and institution of national importance to our twin-city."
In a letter written to the chief secretary of GOK by Shyam Sundar Lal, undersecretary, Government of India, it is mentioned that the ministry of home affairs (MHA) has given in-principal approval for setting up an off-campus of NFSU in Hubballi, Karnataka.
The letter also stated that the government of Karnataka may initiate further action in this regard and also invite the officers concerned from the NFSU to finalise the land requirement and the land transfer protocols at the earliest, in order for NFSU to prepare and submit a detailed project report to the ministry.
Speaking to TOI, Pralhad Joshi said: "I was putting in efforts to convince MHA to sanction a campus of NFSU to Hubballi - Dharwad, met union home minister Amit Shah several times and also the union home secretary and convinced them how Hubballi-Dharwad is viable for the setting up of the campus, explained connectivity and other factors and also congestion in Bengaluru and finally MHA issued an order," he added.
“Initially I requested the CM of Karnataka to set up a campus outside of Bengaluru to avoid congestion in the state capital and later convinced him to set up the campus in Hubballi-Dharwad," he said.
He also said that "My idea is to lay the foundation stone for the campus on January 27. I asked Union home minister Amit Shah, and he agreed. On Monday, I will meet Shah and request him again," said Joshi. “We are yet to finalise the land in Hubballi or Dharwad,” he added.
According to sources, there are eight campuses of NFSU in India, which include Gujarat, Delhi, Goa, Tripura, Bhopal, Pune, Guwahati, Manipur.
