Mysuru: The first Lok Adalat of 2023 is scheduled to be held across the district on February 11. Principal district and sessions judge M L Raghunath, who is also chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, on Friday said there are 1,12,113 cases pending before the courts across the district. Of them, 59,507 are civil disputes. “Of these, 34,937 cases can be settled through Lok Adalat,” he added.
Out of the 11,120 cases identified for resolution through reconciliation, 3,770 pertain to motor vehicle accidents, 2,736 criminal cases and 4,548 cheque bounce cases booked under Negotiable Instruments Act, besides 66 pre-litigation cases. Lok Adalat has received overwhelming response and over two lakh cases were settled in the last two years, he said.
Karnataka high court has appreciated Mysuru Legal Services Authority for the progress, he said. The judge also urged the litigants to participate in Lok Adalat and get their cases resolved.
Member secretary of DLSA, also civil judge Devaraj Bothe, bar association president M Mahadevaswamy and others were present.
