Panaji: After chief minister Pramod Sawant led a delegation that met Union home minister Amit Shah over the Mhadei water issue in Delhi on Wednesday, Congress alleged that the local BJP MLAs work as per ‘fatwa’ of the BJP high command.
“Since the Prime Minister refused to meet the delegation, the chief minister created drama of meeting the home minister,” said opposition leader Yuri Alemao.
Sawant was aware the outcome of the Delhi trip would be nil, which is why he (CM) did not include opposition MLAs in the delegation, Alemao said.
Congress state president Amit Patkar also sought to know the reason the CM-led delegation presented Shah a bouquet. “Was it given for snatching the lifeline ‘mother Mhadei? Will Goa CM explain to Goans? Stop fooling and betraying Goans.” tweeted Patkar.
Alemao said the government was rattled by the backlash over its complete compromise on the Mhadei issue, and hence permission for the Sakhali protest rally on Monday was revoked. Sakhali Municipal Council revoked permission citing possible traffic congestion due to the weekly market as the reason. Sakhali traders had also raised concern, it said.
“I strongly condemn the act and warn Pramod Sawant that Mhadei jagor will bring the government to its knees,” said Alemao.
