"Rick and Morty" creator Justin Roiland is accused of domestic violence. The case is related to an incident involving Roiland's girlfriend in 2020, according to reports.

The 42-year-old Roiland could face punishment up to 7 years in jail if found guilty, BBC reported.

Orange County District Attorney in southern California had filed felony criminal charges in May 2020. However, Roiland that time pleaded not guilty to two charges. On Thursday, Roiland attended pre-trial hearing in the court.

According to reports, the incident allegedly occurred in January, 2020. Roiland was accused of domestic violence, corporal injury, fraud. Police complaint claimed that Roiland's violent actions were reason for "traumatic condition" of the woman.

Malala has an asteroid named after her.

The 2010 ML48, was officially named '316201 Malala' in 2015. As per NASA, Asteroid Malala is in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter and orbits the sun every five-and-a-half years. It is about four kilometers in diameter, and has a very dark surface - similar to the colour of printer toner.

All For A Good Laugh

Malala has a soft corner for TV, especially for comedies. The young graduate is a fan of 'Ted Lasso' and reportedly also loves spending her spare time watching 'Rick and Morty'.

Name Game

Malala, whose name means 'grief-stricken', was named after Malalai of Maiwand - the Afghan heroine who rallied Pashtun fighters leading her people to victory in the Battle of Maiwand.

In August 2020, Roiland was arrested but later released on $50,000 bond. In October 2020, he chose not to plead guilty.

Subsequently, a protective order was filed against Roiland. As per the protective order, Roiland was directed to maintain 100ft distance from the complainant, and warned him not to harass or issue any threat.

On Thursday, Roiland attended the court hearing. The next hearing is scheduled for April 27, 2023. Roiland has been directed to attend the hearing.
