MANGALURU: The body of a 38-year-old Hindu activist who was reported missing since Wednesday was found in Nethravati river in Bantwal of Dakshina Kannada on Thursday. Rajesh worked as a civil contractor and was part of VHP's cow-protection wing in the region.
According to police, a family member received a call around 5am on Thursday from a distant relative stating that Rajesh's motorbike was found near Nethravati bridge. The victim, son of Nagesh Poojari, had left home around 8.30am Wednesday for construction work and had not returned in the night.
Rajesh, who was unmarried and lived with his parents, used to be back home by 7pm. But he had not returned till 10pm, and there was an update on his Facebook wall related to god around 10.20pm.
After the early-morning alert, a team from the fire and emergency services department launched a search operation in the Nethravati river and found his body around 10.45am. VHP
Karnataka Dakshina Prantha joint secretary Sharan Pumpwell said police must consider this case seriously and probe the incident from all angles.
