Aloysius school’s class of 1986 sponsors Miyawaki forest
Mangaluru: In order to commemorate their school life, the class of 1986 (grade 10) of St Aloysius School, Mangaluru, sponsored a 300-tree Miyawaki forest on the college campus. A plaque commemorating the occasion was unveiled here on Thursday.
The plaque was unveiled by Fr Melwyn Pinto, rector of St. Aloysius Institutions. According to the alumni batch of 1986, about 300 trees have been planted over an area of half an acre. Now spread all over the world, the students wanted to thank St Aloysius Institution for nurturing life-long friendships. Through the Miyawaki forest, they hope to relive and cherish their childhood years while looking forward to a more sustainable future. Besides representing 37-plus years of long-term friendships between classmates, the forest also contributes to the beauty of the city.
The class of 1986 has people in diverse fields across the world. Among them are doctors, lawyers, academics, architects, businessmen, entrepreneurs, military service members, a Jesuit priest and others. Speaking on the occasion, Anil Kumar from the class of 1986 and also secretary of St Aloysius College Alumni Association said: As classmates, we wanted something we could have on campus that could be a lasting reminder of our times in school.
Rector Fr Melwyn said: “It is a matter of profound joy and celebration when alumni return to their alma mater and express their sentiments of gratitude. Words translate into action when a group of classmates volunteers to do something as an expression of gratitude. It is unique also because trees signify life. Flowers and fruits are symbols of their success.”
