COIMBATORE: The Karumathampatti police arrested seven people, including three minor boys, for armed robbery on Thursday.
The arrested people were identified as T Rohit, 20, M Vijayaraj, 22, P Niroshan, 23 and Vanjinathan, 19, and three minor boys, residents of Puliyampatti in Erode district.
Three of them are students and the rest are labourers, police sources said. They targeted guest workers.
The seven-member gang had robbed a group of guest workers of six mobile phones and 5,000 on Tuesday, police sources said. “They knocked on the door of the building on an agricultural field at Keeranatham early morning and barged into the room with deadly weapons to rob them,” a police officer said.
They later visited Sellappampalayam village near Karumathampatti and climbed on the roof of a tiled house with a machete and other weapons. They entered the house through the main door, attacked guest workers and snatched five mobile phones.
Both incidents were caught on CCTV cameras. The videos went viral on social media on Wednesday.
The Karumathampatti police arrested the gang on Thursday and seized three motorcycles, 11 mobile phones and weapons from them.
