Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police have stepped up security to ensure smooth conduct of the Men’s Hockey World Cup, starting Friday, and asked its personnel to be hospitable towards everyone, including teams, delegates and spectators. The world is watching Odisha for organising the event for the second time in a row after 2018. “Let our behaviour be world-class so that each visitor returns with a very good experience,” Bhubaneswar-Cuttack commissioner of police Saumendra Priyadarshi said while briefing his force about their duties and responsibilities.
At least 75 to 80 platoons of police force and 400 police officers would be deployed at Kalinga Stadium as well as the venues of various cultural programmes and festivals, linked to the mega sporting event.
A thick security blanket has been thrown around from the stadium to the hotels where teams are staying and from the places, they are likely to visit the sites for different festivals. Each team has been provided with two personal security officers (PSOs) and some police officers for their safety and security, Priyadarshi said.
He said cops in khaki will not be deployed inside the Kalinga Stadium.
