Vadodara: The heat’s on the loan sharks now with the city police deciding to seek help of officials of the
income tax (I-T) and enforcement directorate (ED) to book lenders overcharging interest from borrowers.
The police said that they have asked for the financial details of a loan shark who was booked for charging heavy interest.
“If investigations reveal that the lender has shown false income on record, action will be taken against him and others involved in similar offences too. Also, some of the accused have amassed a lot of property,” the police said. Cops will write to the ED and initiate the process of attaching properties of these accused.
The city police has launched a crackdown on people working as lenders and overcharging interests and are also organizing ‘lok darbars’. Seven FIRs have been registered against loan sharks and some were arrested too.
“We have also asked people to give anonymous complaints that will be investigated,” cops added. tnn
