Goa: Helicopter landing at GTDC’s Baga parking area catches tourists, locals off guard

CALANGUTE: Tourists and locals were taken by surprise when a helicopter landed at the GTDC parking area at Baga on Thursday at around 3.30pm.
A video of the incident went viral on social media.
There is no helipad within this parking area. The area within the GTDC parking area where the helicopter landed was cordoned with ropes in the morning. The helicopter landed at around 3.30pm and took off again soon after, he said.
Calangute panchayat sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said he has been told by people who were there that the helicopter did not have any markings.
“I've been told a woman came out and the helicopter was there for one hour,” he said, adding that he was not aware if any authority had given permission for the aircraft to land.
“That place is only meant for parking of vehicles. You can’t just come and land there in a helicopter. They need permission to land which I don't think was granted. It could have easily endangered people,” Sequeira said.
