Chandigarh: Punjab NRI affairs minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Thursday said he will meet the Punjab and Haryana high court chief
justice to work out a plan for setting up fast-track courts for the Punjabi expatriates.
Reviewing the issues taken up at last month’s NRIs meets of the state government, Dhaliwal said the expatriates had a
common grouse that they had to make frequent visits to Punjab for court hearings of their land disputes and marital discord cases. Besides officials of the NRI affairs department, the additional director general of police (NRIs) and the NRI Sabha commissioner attended the meeting.
Dhaliwal promised to appoint advisers for legal aid to the NRIs and he also ordered the deputy commissioners concerned to resolve 50% of the NRI grievances brought to them at the ‘Milni’ programmes through their nodal officers. tnn
