VADODARA: A married woman has filed a case under the Dowry Prohibition Act against her husband and in-laws at the Gotri police station on Wednesday.
Incidentally, the complainant was the first to file a case in the state under the Gujarat Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Act 2021 also termed anti-love jihad law, against her husband Sameer Qureshi.
The woman has now accused Qureshi and her in-laws of physical and mental harassment apart from demanding dowry from her.
Qureshi and his father Abdul have been arrested by the Gotri police.
In her earlier complaint in 2021, the woman had alleged that Qureshi introduced himself as Sam Martin on social media and befriended her. He then got into a physical relationship with her by promising marriage.
She claimed that she later learnt that his real name was Sameer Qureshi and also alleged that he converted her forcibly before marrying her. Qureshi was arrested by the police but during his bail application hearing, the complainant said that she was just mentally harassed.
She and Qureshi also moved the Gujarat high court to quash the FIR. The HC quashed the FIR last year.
