Panaji: Wasim Shaikh, the AC technician from Mumbai who was assaulted in Anjuna on Monday night by five intoxicated workers from Bihar, passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at GMC, Bambolim. Anjuna police have now booked the five accused for murder.
The five accused — Deepak Paswan, Roshan Paswan, Dishkant Paswan, Kishan Paswan, and Sumit Kumar Shah — had already been arrested and are in police custody, but had earlier been booked for attempt to murder. The victim’s friend Sohail Shaikh had complained to the police that while he and fellow AC technician Wasim were at a construction site, late Monday night, the workers, under the influence of alcohol, came towards them and after a short argument assaulted Sohail and Wasim with fist blows and kicks.
Sohail managed to escape, but Wasim was critical after being assaulted by the workers until he was unconscious.
