Tirupur: The residents of Muthur in Dharapuram have requested the district administration to launch a round-the-clock ambulance service.
As the current ambulance service is limited only during the day, patients including pregnant women are forced to travel a long way to reach government hospitals at Vellakoil or Kangayam. In case of an emergency, they have to travel 50km to reach the Tirupur Medical College Hospital.
Muthur panchayat, which comprises Chinnamuthur, Mangalapatti and Poomandanvalasu, has 75,000 residents. “In case of any emergency at night, transportation becomes a serious safety risk for patients,” said S Sivakumar, a villager.
The villagers urged the district department to appoint an ambulance pilot for night operation. TNN
