Ludhiana: The Ludhiana unit of Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested a man with 1.2 kg heroin.
Acting on a tip-off, the STF officials nabbed the accused — identified as Akash Kumar (21) of Ghora Colony — from a road near Vardhman chowk. The police have also booked his accomplice Manjeet Singh Manu, 32, of Preet Nagar, Tajpur road, who is yet to be arrested.
Inspector Harbans Singh, in-charge, Ludhiana unit of STF, said the police had got information that Manjeet had handed over a consignment of heroin to Akash Kumar which he was going to deliver to the customers. Acting on the tip-off, a checkpost was established by the STF and stopped Akash who was commuting on his scooter. On frisking, the STF found 1.2 kg heroin and two electronic weighing machines from under the seat of the scooter.
“The accused said he had been unemployed and earned a living by peddling drugs. Manjeet Singh is the main accused who had handed him over the heroin for further supply to the customers. Manjeet already has a drug peddling case against him in which he had come out of the jail about six months back. Besides, Manjeet also had completed sentence in a kidnapping and rape case,” the inspector said.tnn
