TNSTC to operate special buses to clear Pongal rush
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will launch 240 special buses from Gandhipuram Central Bus Terminal, Mettupalayam Road New Bus Terminal, Singanallur and Sulur from Thursday to clear Pongal rush.
While buses to southern districts, including Madurai and Theni, will be operated from the Singanallur terminal, those on Trichy and Karur routes will be operated from Sulur terminal. Gandhipuram Central Bus Terminal is meant for buses on Salem, Tirupur, Erode, Anaikatti and Sathyamangalam routes, and those on Ooty and Mettupalayam routes will be operated from the Mettupalayam Road New Bus Terminal.
As many as 100 buses will be deployed on Coimbatore-Madurai route, 50 on Coimbatore-Theni route and 50 each on Salem and Trichy routes, a TNSTC official said. “Shuttle services will provide the much-needed connectivity within the city for the passengers from Gandhipuram terminal and Ukkadam terminal. Buses will be plied frequently to connect all terminals,” he added.
More buses will be deployed depending on the demand, another official said. “Special buses will be deployed after Pongal to bring passengers back to Coimbatore. Adequate number of buses will be deployed on all routes.”
