Sextortion gang that made Rs 1 crore in 30 mths busted in Alwar, 3 held

ALWAR: The Alwar police on Wednesday busted a major sextortion gang and arrested three of its members who earned Rs 11 crore by blackmailing people in last 30 months. The Govindgarh police station of the district had learned that a gang was operating from the region was blackmailing people through nude video calls.
The police then intercepted a SUV and arrested three accused idenitfied as Kayuim (23), Kaif Khan (20), and Zahir Khan (19). The police also recovered eight ATM cards, four mobile phones, a swipe machine, one SUV and Rs 1.50 lakh cash from the accused.

SHO (Govindgarh) Tara Chand Sharma said that the gang was operating for past 30 months and blackmailed people to deposit money into their accounts.
All the accused are residents of Bharatpur's Jurhera area. The accused in their investigation revealed that they were working at the behest of an accused idenitfied as Rahul.
The police also suspect that the accused were also invovled in different cyber frauds including sextortion.
The meance of sextortion gang has long plauged the Rajasthan police. Many of these gangs are based in Mewat region that cuts across Bharatpur and Alwar districts.
According to Alwar and Bharatpur police, the modus operandi is the same every time. Gang members masquerade as beautiful women on social media sites to befriend potential targets. What starts as casual online flirting graduates into bolder chatting. Online Hindi-to-English translation tools keep the charade going till numbers are exchanged and the game moves to WhatsApp.
The next bait is porn. The victim thinks the person in the clip is the "woman" he is chatting with, and invariably gets cajoled into indulging in a sex act that is recorded. Blackmail follows. Most give in for fear of being outed on social media or some porn website
