Guwahati: The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet has given its nod to hand over five terminated hydropower projects with a generation capacity of 2,820 MW to public sector undertakings, NEEPCO and SJVN Limited, in its first meeting of the year on Tuesday evening.
The Naying (1000 MW) and Hirong (500 MW) power projects would be handed over to NEEPCO, while the Emini (500 MW), Amulin (420 MW) and Minundon (400 MW) projects will go to SJVN Limited for development. While the projects will get an investment of Rs 40,000 crore in the next five to seven years, these green power projects will yield revenue of Rs 600 crore per year, stated a government release.
“The five power projects would generate green power of 2,880 MW and provide revenue of around Rs 500 crore per year in free power and around Rs 100 crore for local area development,” it added.
The Arunachal cabinet chaired by chief minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday finalised an action plan for unlocking the rich potential by revamping some of the important stalled projects that are currently with Independent Power Producers (IPPs). These projects will now be handed over to the central public sector undertakings (CPSUs), the cabinet decided.
“The cabinet decided to hand over some important stalled projects currently with IPPs to CPSUs for their development. It will lead to all round growth, employment generation, ease of living and a slew of business opportunities for traders and entrepreneurs,” the chief minister tweeted.
