Minor steals jewellery, cooks up story of blackmail, booked

Thane: A minor girl was booked while her 18-year-old boyfriend and a jeweller were arrested after the girl stole jewellery from her house to splurge on their birthday party which falls on the same day. The accused, Alok Raut, the minor girl's boyfriend and the jeweller Basuki Verma 32, informed Nitin Sonawane, the ACP of Thane police. Sonawane said, “In a bid to save herself she cooked up a false story and also tried to frame her other minor friend by accusing him of blackmailing her.” However, the boy was innocent and the police questioned the girl once again, she broke down revealed that she had given the jewellery. Raut for a birthday celebration which falls on January 3, and cooked up the blackmail story to save him as they share their birthday. She said that he sold the jewellery in Manpada for Rs 53,000, Sonawane added. TNN
